Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART)

Approximately 15 percent of couples in the United States don't conceive a child after trying for a year or more. In 1998, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine estimated that there were 6.1 million couples with infertility problems in the United States. ART is any procedure that uses high technology to combine sperm and eggs. Most couples go through extensive infertility evaluation and treatment before being considered for assisted reproductive technologies (ART). About one-third of the infertile couples in the United States are good candidates for ART.

• SPECIAL NOTE to women over the age of 40: Our research shows that women over 40 should be aggressive in their treatment process and consider ART procedures early. We recommend a test of your follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels to help determine the most appropriate treatment.
