Setting up Google Analytics

In June 2009, IHR started using Google Analytics, to track website traffic, for all of our new clients. Google Analytics is a very powerful tool for analyzing your web hosting traffic... and it's free!

A. Background information

If you are reading this page, IHR has most likely set you up with a Google Analytics account. So, at this point, Google is collecting your website statistics, however, IHR needs to provide you with a way to access those statistics.

In order to view your statistics, you must have a Google account.

B. How to access your Google Analytics statistics

  1. Sign up for a Google account here - https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount

    • If you already have a Google account, then you can skip this step.
    • Be sure to enter the email address you want associated with your Google Account. You can use any email address; it does not need to be a Gmail address. But, it should be an email address from which you currently send and receive mail.
    • Here's further information about Google accounts:
  2. Email IHR with the Email address of the Google accounts user who will access your Google Analytics. IHR will then set up that user to access the statistics.

  3. Now view your Google Analytics statistics, as follows:

    • Access this page - https://www.google.com/analytics/settings/
    • Click on "View Report" to access your dashboard
    • Click on "Content" in the navigation bar, to review your most popular pages
    • Click on "Traffic Sources" in the navigation bar, to see where your traffic is coming from
    • Click on "Help" in the upper right hand corner to get more help from Google

C. If you're not sure whether you have Google Account:

If you are using any of the following Google services, than you already have a Google account:

  • Gmail (Google email)
  • Google Adwords
  • Google Checkout
  • iGoogle
  • Google Groups
  • Picasa
  • Web History

If you're still not sure whether you have a Google Account, then go to the Google Password Assistance page and enter your email address that might be associated with a Google Account. If you don't have a Google Account with that email address, Google will display the following error message:

"No account found with that email address. Please try again."
