A vasectomy reversal is an operation that reestablishes a connection between the two ends of the vas deferens that were separated at the time of a prior vasectomy. There are two main vasectomy reversal surgical techniques:
- Vasovasostomy - Typically the first choice of treatment for
vasectomy reversal
- Vasoepididymostomy (also called an epididymovasostomy) - More complex procedure; required in approximately one third of cases. This microsurgical procedure is used for treatment of epididymal obstruction. Surgeons must have excellent microsurgical skills and extensive experience to be able to perform this anastomosis procedure between the vas deferens and epididymis.
