Sharing Your Google Analytics With IHR

In June 2009, IHR started using Google Analytics, to track website traffic, for all of our new clients. Google Analytics is a very powerful tool for analyzing your web hosting traffic... and it's free!

If you plan to set up your own Google Analytics account and then share your statistics with IHR then please review this web page.

A. Background information

There are two options for setting up your Google Analytics (GA):

  • IHR can set up your GA inside our IHR account. Advantages: IHR does most of the work for you, we can help you if you get stuck, we can setup your sub-account to suit your needs (e.g. emailing reports).

  • You can set up your GA account on your own: Advantages: You have total control of your GA account. Disadvantages: you're on your own, IHR doesn't assist you with your own accounts.

Whichever option is used, you must have a Google account to review your GA statistics.

Here are some helpful Google pages explaining Google accounts:

B. Set up your own Google Analytics account and share it with IHR

These procedures assume you want to set up your own independent Google Analytics account and then perhaps share that with IHR::

  1. Sign up for a Google account here - https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount .

    • If you already have a Google account, then you can skip this step.

    • Be sure to enter the email address you want associated with your Google Account. You can use any email address; it does not need to be a Gmail address. But, it should be an email address from which you currently send and receive mail.

    • At the bottom of the page, also sign up for Google Analytics

  2. Then, go here to see your Google Analytics (GA) information - https://www.google.com/analytics/settings/

  3. Google will generate some GA code for you. Email that GA code to IHR, via our Contact Us page.

  4. IHR will add that GA code into your website.

  5. If you want IHR to review your statistics with you, you can sign up IHR as a user, as follows:
    • For User setup: enter "Cliff Bernstein," with email cliffb@ihr.com
    • For Access Type: select "Account Administrator" (or you can select "View only" if IHR will only view your website statistics)
    • For Website Profiles: select all of them

C. If you're not sure whether you have Google Account:

If you are using any of the following Google services, than you already have a Google Account:

  • Gmail (Google email)
  • Google Adwords
  • Google Checkout
  • iGoogle
  • Google Groups
  • Picasa
  • Web History

If you're still not sure whether you have a Google Account, then go to the Google Password Assistance page and enter your email address that might be associated with a Google Account. If you don't have a Google Account with that email address, Google will display the following error message:

"There are no Google Accounts currently registered to the username abc123cv8@abcv124777.com. If you spelled the address incorrectly or entered the wrong address, please try again.

If your email address is correct, then you may not have created an account with Google, even if you currently use some of our products. For example, it's possible to use iGoogle and Google Alerts without a Google Account. In this case, please create an account."
