Choosing Your Egg Donor

Y

ou’ve decided on egg donation to create your family. Now what do you do? You are probably working with a fertility specialist if you are aware of this option, so that is the best place to start. There should be donor "catalogs" or books from several agencies available at your physician’s office from which to choose a suitable donor. But that brings up another question: what constitutes a suitable donor?

The ultimate answer, of course, is up to each individual couple. Some recipient couples view egg donation as an alternative to adoption and are thrilled when the process results in a healthy child. Others are more selective and are very concerned about the ethnic, intellectual and/or physical attributes of a potential donor. There are many, varied and highly personal reasons that lead a couple to select one donor over another: ethnicity, education, physical appearance, musical talents, previous pregnancies, the list is endless. The first step in selecting a donor has to begin with you. You and your partner need to discuss what is most important to you, then it is time to start looking through those agency books!

Which agency to choose? There are a variety of agencies available and many have differing philosophies, costs and donor availability. Our goal at Pacific Connection Fertility Services is to help you build your family. Whether you select a donor from those we have available, or from another agency, we are always here to listen and maybe help point you in the right direction. Being based in Hawaii we have two unique attributes not usually seen in donor agencies: rich ethnic diversity and genuine love and caring, the spirit of aloha. Our philosophy is simple: if you succeed then we have succeeded.
